A two-month journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an older lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a break. The ship left without her and went back later that day after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt located her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, together with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an revised announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of money to take part in the cruise - were taken there for a shore visit with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the vessel left the location after an organised tour without my mother".
