Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
